These are the Nine Old Men Flip Books. Back in Disney’s hayday there was a change in the organisation which meant that instead of multiple animators working on each scene, there was one person dedicated to the scene. This led to better work because the single animator had a fuller understanding of the character interactions. There were nine lead animators fondly known by Walt Disney as the ‘nine old men’ and this collection of nine flip books commemorates each of them respectively. It includes scans of the original pencil drawn animation before colouring or compositing. There are even notes written on the side of some pages. IT’S AMAZING. View high resolution

Brian Grimwood, founder of The Central Illustration Agency has a book launching this week! Impressively he’s been around a wee while paving the way for illustrators not just in the UK but all over the world… he did in fact ‘… Change the look of British illustration’! Ten years in the making with an incredible archive of work - ‘Brian Grimwood: The Man Who Changed the Look of British Illustration’ is published by Black Dog Publishing. To coincide with the launch, there will be a retrospective of his work running from 14th September until 3rd November at WORK Gallery. View high resolution

To coincide with the launch, there will be a retrospective of his work running from 14th September until 3rd November at WORK Gallery.

Tonight is the all singing and all dancing Best Piece of Advice Ever party at Village Underground. Hosted by our US reps Bernstein & Andriulli and Creative Social in aid of the launch of the illustrated book of the same title.
